Stargazer
is located on a north shore hilltop of
Providenciales (commonly called
Provo). Historically of the eight main
islands, Provo was at one time one of least
developed with only a few small local
settlements. However over the years,
this has all changed and Provo has become
the most developed island in the Turks and
Caicos. Club Med, the island's first
large hotel opened in 1990 and thus touched
off the development boom. Provo is now the
most tourist-oriented, with a wide range of
hotels, condos, resorts, restaurants,
attractions, and facilities, even boasting
an 18-hole golf course.
The
resorts on Providenciales are mostly
centered on Grace Bay, with its brilliant
white sandy beach and shimmering turquoise
waters. Among Provo's charms lies the
diving with miles of coral reefs, which are
found temptingly close to shore. Also
surrounding Provo is a number of uninhabited
cays that can be enjoyed and easily reached
by chartered boat or excursion.
