TIME
ZONE
The
Turks and Caicos Islands are in the Eastern
Standard Time Zone. Daylight savings
is observed in the islands from April -
November, and follows the American protocol.
Note that Club Med does not observe daylight
savings time, so should you make a
reservation there, ask them by which time
standard they are referring.
CURRENCY
The
Turks and Caicos Islands official currency
is the US Dollar. Major credit cards
such as Visa or MasterCard are widely
accepted, as are US dollar based traveler's
checks. American Express credit cards are
only accepted at a few restaurants, but most
resorts. Diners Club and Discover are not
accepted. ATM machines are available
and some foreign currencies (Canadian
dollars, Euros and British Pounds) can
be exchanged at the banks. There are three
banks located on island and they typically
close at 3pm and are not open on weekends.
Avoid Fridays, as that is payday and you
will experience exceedingly long lines.
Cash
will be needed for some activities and
services, such as taxis and some fishing and
water sports and local artists/vendors as
well as to settle food and beverage accounts
at the Villa and any gratuities you may wish
to give. If you don't want to travel
with cash, you may wire funds down ahead of
your arrival and they will be made available
to you during your stay. Your Villa
Manager will take care of all the details
for you. If you want to settle any
Villa accounts by credit card, please note
that for any expenses that were paid by
cash, there will be a 3.75% surcharge, the
amount the local banks levy on our credit
card deposits.
ELECTRICITY
Villa
electricity runs on 120 Volts and 60 Cycles,
compatible with North American appliances.
The Villa is equipped with a whole-house
generator, which will kick in within 2
seconds of the grid power becoming
unavailable.
All
bathrooms are equipped with hair driers, and
curling irons are available, if needed.
